Loss Leads to Heaven's Gain

Loss Leads to Heaven's Gain

Ecclesiastes 7:1-3, 2 Hebrews 9:27; Corinthians 7:10, Joshua 24:14-15; Romans

The world mourns the loss of NBA basketball legend Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gigi,
John Altobelli, Keri Altobelli, Alyssa Altobelli, Christina Mauser, Sarah Chester, Payton
Chester, and the unnamed pilot. The news of this tragedy broke as people partook in
worship services, worked, or enjoyed another activity of their choice on Sunday. But this
helicopter had a father whom he was teaching the craft that brought him so much fame
and acclaim by people all around the globe. The breaking news of this story is akin to
the 1986 tragic loss of Len Bias before he could play a single game in the NBA.

Stories now flood every mode of communication today encouraging us to live better and
in harmony with each other because life is precious. This is encouraging because it
affirms the truth in scripture that tells us of the goodness present when mourning the
loss of life. I can assure you that when Kobe Bryant was born, there was no global
following and no global outpouring of heart felt expressions causing us to consider
where we stand with family, their fellow man and most importantly God.

Mourning the loss of the nine passengers on that helicopter is bearing fruit for the
kingdom of God. People all around the world spent the day pondering the truth that it is
appointed to us all to die once and then to face a sure judgment. God is calling souls to
repentance. Many are considering where they stand with God and are turning to Him for
a personal relationship. Godly sorrow is bearing fruit in the lives of so many people right
now, as they seek forgiveness for transgressions against both family and friends as they
now realize that unforgiveness cannot occupy that a jealous God wants.

This sorrow towards God has a multitude of people forsaking other gods and choosing
to serve God by accepting Jesus Christ. Loss is bearing fruit for the kingdom of God as
we speak. The Lord's ways are not our ways nor are His thoughts our thoughts. God
knew how many mourning souls would accept the gift of salvation in Jesus Christ in this
moment of loss.

Loss leads to heaven's gain. God is drawing near for His church. Do not be left behind.
Is your name in His book of life? If God is knocking at your heart now, confess that you
are a sinner needing Jesus in your life as Lord and Savior. Invite Him into your life
today. Harden not your heart if you hear God knocking. Redeem this day’s new mercy.
Salvation is yours if you believe.
